Story Renovation & Adaptive Reuse
A careful renovation shaped by coloured oxide, terracotta craft, restored windows, and changing natural light.
EDAM is an architecture renovation and interiors project in Cochin, transforming an existing home into a timeless residence rooted in history, sustainability, and craftsmanship. Designed for a UK-based teacher with deep roots in Kerala, the project was inspired by the client's admiration for Geoffrey Bawa's tropical modernist architecture and a shared belief in giving old spaces a second life.
Conceived in collaboration with Vettaths Design Community, Kr'ti Katha led the material palette, colours, textures, detailing, and project coordination. Handcrafted oxide finishes were used extensively on the walls and, for the first time at this scale, across the flooring. Antique windows and doors sourced from old homes were carefully restored and integrated throughout the house, alongside preloved furniture and vintage artefacts, creating layers of warmth, history, and character.
Rather than replacing the old, the design celebrates it. The existing house was thoughtfully reimagined into three distinct yet connected living spaces, proving that with care, sensitivity, and the right vision, existing structures and reclaimed materials can become something even more meaningful than before.
